Our Mission:
Transforming Our Streets Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the prevention of gun violence in the inner city. Our target demographic is at-risk youth. We believe that the degree of a person’s success is directly proportional to their level of exposure to positive influences. To that end, we work with truly reformed prisoners and ex-prisoners who can relate to the community most affected by gun violence.
Our mentors are credible and experienced with the communities they serve because they hail from those communities. Their goal is to mentor at-risk youth and dissuade them from a lifestyle of gangs, guns, and drugs. Our mentors can provide a firsthand account of their lived experience and how choosing that life ultimately leads to death or incarceration.
The Transforming Our Streets (TOS) initiative will also offer courses in employment readiness, including resume writing, job interviews, entrepreneurship, and digital literacy. We believe that when young people are provided with the skills and opportunities for success, they will choose the path to success.
Our mentors hold their mentees accountable through regular Zoom calls or personal visits. We believe that people do not care how much you know until they know how much you care. We are deeply committed to the communities we serve, and are willing to invest our time and resources to help them thrive.
